Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of art does Kendra Kett create?
I am a Midwest contemporary abstract artist based in the Chicago area, creating painted drawings rooted in organic, cellular forms and patterns of growth. My work explores themes of healing, emotional resiliency, and transformation, often suggesting movement beneath the surface. While some pieces may reference nature (especially botanicals), my work is primarily non-representational—focused on organic structures and the quiet energy of evolving forms. A bold, vibrant use of color is central to my visual language, bringing both intensity and balance to each piece.
What inspires Kendra Kett’s artwork?
My work is inspired by ideas of cellular healing and emotional resilience—how repair, growth, and renewal unfold over time. I’m drawn to both the natural world and internal landscapes, including memory, psychology, and subtle emotional shifts. Each piece develops intuitively, with layered marks and forms emerging in a way that mirrors organic expansion. Color plays a leading role, often guiding the direction of the work as much as the forms themselves.
What materials and techniques does Kendra Kett use?
I create my mixed media painted drawings using watercolor pencils and paint pens, colored pencils, micron and metallic pens, and acrylic paint. I work on watercolor paper, wood panels, and canvas board. This layered process allows me to build my compositions gradually mark by mark resulting in surfaces that feel intricate, tactile, and alive with movement and color.
Are Kendra Kett’s works professionally framed?
Yes. The majority of my work is presented with professional, archival matting and framing designed for both longevity and visual clarity. I favor a style of casual elegance -- clean, simple framing that enhances the artwork without competing with it -- allowing the color, detail, and composition to remain the focus.
Where can I see Kendra Kett’s artwork in person?
I exhibit throughout the greater Chicago area, with a strong presence across Lake County IL as well as venues in northern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin. My work appears in juried exhibitions, member shows, and special projects. To see where my work will be exhibited next, please visit the Events page on my website for current and upcoming listings.
