Biophilia
What is Biophilia?
Biophilia is the innate, genetically determined human tendency to seek connections with natures and other forms of life.
I have recently begun exploring incorporating the use of imaginary botanical “biomorphic” shapes into my imagery. These shapes seemingly feel "alive" even though they don’t depict an actual real life plant or living organism. Yet, upon looking at them, our biological brain automatically categorizes these shapes as some sort of "living material."
I like the restorative aspect of this type of imagery. Studies show that viewing curved lines, fluid silhouettes, and organic forms lowers heart rates and stress. The world of nature is a constant source of healing and inspiration.
