The Absence of All My Unfinished Business
This piece is about liberation, freedom, happiness, repair, and healing from a wound and a betrayal that was so fierce you thought you could never climb and claw out of it, and then discovering one day that you now feel only a “blankness” about it, a void, a certain kind of neutrality. You feel really, really good about it, excited, positive, and empowered, but not giddy or giggly. But, still, it feels kind of like a ”blank.” An emptiness that’s not sad or mad. It’s just there. I have kept asking myself: what is this blank space that I feel?
Perhaps it is the open expansiveness that arrives after a long battle ends.
Perhaps it is the realization that a trauma no longer needs to be processed, churned, or ruminated. You have done the work.
Perhaps it is just the long-awaited destination of “closure” (however it arrives).
